How to set a default featured image for your website

Sometimes, it's hard to remember to set that featured image (until you jump over to facebook and share your shiny new blog post... only to be disappointed in how the preview image displays). Unfortunately, when you forget to set that featured image right away, some social media platforms cache your preview image and save it, so going back to your page or post to add the new image doesn't always fix how it is displayed on a social media platform–even if you delete your post and re-submit the url from scratch.

The best solution is to create a generic featured image for your website. We suggest using your logo over a background that fits your brand or matches your home page hero image. Images that are 16:9 work great, and keeping a 20% minimum margin of space around your logo is a good idea as well.

To set your default featured image, navigate to your admin section, then to Settings > Media and you should see a sections labeled "Default Featured Image". You can also replace the subdomain in this url to get to the Media Settings page:

If your default featured image looks stretched on this settings page, don't worry. It shouldn't be like that anywhere else. 😊
